Before Race came into town, the City of Boron was considered an underserved area where the wireless broadband speeds were less than 6 Mbps. The Kern County City of Boron Project was awarded in 2013 in order to build a fiber network providing broadband access to nearly 900 households at speeds of up to 1000 Mbps.
